According to a tweet from Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com, Daniel Murphy is expected to start the season on the disabled list, due to his right knee injury. He is expected to be out 2-3 weeks according to Rubin.
In a conflicting tweet, Brian Costa reports that Murphy will be out longer than expected, with the injury possibly keeping him out 2-6 weeks.
Although Chris Carter has had better stats, it is likely that Mike Jacobs will be the Opening Day first baseman for the Mets. It is likely that Carter will make the team as the final bench player, however.
The Opening Day lineup will most likely look something like this:
2B Luis Castillo
CF Angel Pagan
3B David Wright
1B Mike Jacobs
LF Jason Bay
RF Jeff Francoeur
C Rod Barajas
SS Alex Cora
P Johan Santana
That 4-5-6 really scares me with their strike-out potential. Hopefully Jose Reyes will be back quickly and take over the 3 spot with Wright dropping down to 5 and breaking up that strike-out potential.
