Game Recap: Marlins at Mets

Welcome to Opening Day, Mets Style!

The Mets do what they do best on Opening Day, and that is win. The Mets are now 32-17 on Opening Day.

Mets at the Plate: We got exactly what we needed to start off the game. David Wright in his first at bat of the season hit his first home run of the season, an opposite field shot on a 1-0 count to give the Mets an early 2-0 lead and they wouldn't look back. The new additions really showed their worth at the plate today, with Jason Bay going 2 for 4 with a triple, Gary Matthews Jr. went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a walk. Also Rod Barajas went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. The Mets offense was aided by 3 Marlin errors in the bottom of the 6th, where the Mets scored 4 runs.

Mets on the Mound: Thank you Johan Santana. Thank you for being you. Santana pitched extremely effectively, only giving up 1 run on 4 hits in 6 innings with 5 strikeouts and only giving up 2 walks. More importantly, Johan was able to work his way out of jams, something other Mets pitchers could take note off. Fernando Nieve came in to relieve Santana, giving up 2 hits over 2 innings while striking out 2. Finally Francisco Rodriguez came in to finish out the game in a non-save situation, working a 1-2-3 inning. My guess is Jerry brought him in to get back into the game after being away following his brothers car accident at home.

Screwball Player of the Game: This prestigious honor goes to the trio of Bay, GMJ, and Rod Barajas. This trio made their mark on the Mets today and I'm hoping that their production for the rest of the season mimics how they did today.

LET'S GO METS!
