Game Recap: Astros at Mets

The Mets won their Spring Training game against the Houston Astros today by a score of 5-2.

On the Mound: Johan Santana worked his way out of a bases loaded jam in the third inning by getting Hunter Pence to fly out to Angel Pagan in center field. Johan ultimately gave up 8 hits and 2 runs including a home run in 5 2/3 innings. Elmer Dessens recorded the win after only needing one out after replacing Santana. Jonathan Niese had a strong outing, recording his first hold of Spring Training after throwing two scoreless innings and allowing only 2 hits and striking out two. Francisco Rodriguez worked a perfect ninth, striking out three and recording his first save of the year.

At the plate: The Mets had 7 hits today and Daniel Murphy had the only multi-hit game of the game, including his first home run of Spring Training. Murphy also got his first stolen base of the spring. Jason Bay and Jeff Francoeur both had two strikeouts on the day.

The Screwball Player of the Game is Daniel Murphy for having a solid day at the plate.
