2010 Mets Shaping Up

With only one week left until Opening Day, the Mets roster is shaping up. And according to an e-mail by Adam Rubin to Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog.com, both Bobby Parnell and Sean Green will soon be optioned to Triple A Buffalo.

This shows how far these two have fallen in the eyes of Mets' management. This time last year, Bobby Parnell was a flame-throwing rookie who was 3-0 in spring training with an 1.88 ERA and batters only hitting .245 against him. This spring training however Parnell has been unimpressive, with batters hitting a whopping .326 off of him. He will go down to Buffalo to work on his off speed pitches.

Also this time last year Sean Green, along with J.J. Putz were looked at as saviors for the Mets beleaguered bullpen. While Green did have some occasional good moments last year, he was mostly viewed as a bust. This year coming into spring training, Green worked on a Chad Bradford-esque submarine style delivery. This has not been able to help him much, as he is sporting a 5.63 ERA.

Also according to the e-mail, catcher Chris Coste has been designated for assignment and it has been reported that he will accept an assignment to Buffalo if he cleared waivers.

UPDATE 2:25 PM: Chris Coste has been claimed on waivers by the Washington Nationals.

I'm glad to see the Mets get it right with these two pitchers. I can only hope that they get it right with Jenrry Mejia as well and send him down to Double A Binghamton.

And lastly when it comes to the final bench spot although nothing has been made official yet, I am pulling for Chris Carter to get it. I loved the Mike Jacobs signing, as I've always liked him (I was at the game where he made his debut) but I love the attitude and work ethic of Chris Carter. And not only is that great, but he has produced on the field hitting .417 with 3 home runs and 8 runs batted in.
