Game Recap: Marlins at Mets

Neither team deserved to win this game. The Marlins did everything to lose this game with their bullpen looking like the 2008 Mets and the Mets never being able to capitalize on their opportunities. The Marlins ended up beating the Mets 7-6 in 10 innings.

Mets at the Plate: The Mets accumulated 6 hits over the 10 innings and scored 6 runs. The Mets were down 6-1 at one point and started scratching and clawing their way until they tied the game up at 6. In the bottom of the 8th while being down 6-3 they were able to load the bases. With David Wright on 2nd and Mike Jacobs on first, Jason Bay hit a ball to Marlins third baseman Wes Helms who double clutched, threw to Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla to get Jacobs out, but Uggla threw away the relay to first and was given an error while Wright scored. The Mets then loaded the bases and Fernando Tatis walked to bring the game within one. Marlins closer Leo Nunez then balked to tie the game up for the Mets. Those were the big scoring plays.

Mets on the Mound: John Maine had a rough first start of the season, going only 5 innings while letting up 8 hits and having 4 runs scored on him. Following him was the Major League debut of Jenrry Mejia. Mejia seemed like he could use more polishing in the minors, as he had a rough first outing, giving up 3 hits and a run. Sean Green was no better also giving up a run. Pedro Feliciano came in to pitch the 8th and didn't allow any runs. With the score tied, Jerry Manuel had Francisco Rodriguez pitch the ninth. He allowed 2 hits, one being very questionable. Hisanori Takahashi had a rough debut as well, allowing the game winning run to score.

The Screwball Player of the Game goes to Fernando Nieve for getting the Mets out of the 10th inning quickly and not allowing anymore runs.

Just a side note: If there is one good thing to take out of this game, is that the Mets showed a lot of fight in them in tonight's game. This team has me very excited for this year. I really feel there is something big brewing with our team.
